Penguins' Letang out with lower-body injury

Defenseman Kris Letang, a Norris Trophy finalist last season, is out with a lower-body injury and won't skate for the rest of the weekend, the Pittsburgh Penguins said Saturday.

The Penguins are in the midst of a three-day trip to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, but the team said Letang will not skate for the remainder of the weekend and will be evaluated again when the team returns to Pittsburgh.

The Penguins aren't sure if Letang's absence will be short-term or if it's an extended injury.

Pittsburgh will return home Monday and opens the regular season at home against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
