Hurricanes' Skinner likely to miss rest of preseason

Forward Jeff Skinner is likely to miss the remainder of the Carolina Hurricanes' preseason schedule with a lower-body injury.

Skinner did not take part in the morning skate at PNC Arena prior to Thursday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. They also host the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night. Coach Kirk Muller said Skinner won't play Thursday and is doubtful for Friday.

“We just want to be smart and not push him right now with these exhibition games,” Muller said.

Skinner joins a lengthy list of injured Hurricanes. Forwards Alexander Semin (upper body) and Tuomo Ruutu (lower body), and defenseman Tim Gleason (upper body), have missed practice time this week with injuries and will not be in the lineup against Columbus. Elias Lindholm (upper body) has not played since Carolina's preseason opener on Sept. 18 and continues to be sidelined.

“It’s what it is, I guess,” Muller said. “It’d be nice if you had everything in sync this weekend with your lines and D-pairs. But injuries are a part of the game, and you have to ad-lib it.”

Quote of the Day

I spent a long summer thinking about that playoff series and what could have been. [The Blackhawks] ended up being the Stanley Cup champions, so we know we lost to a very good team. It's tough to know how close we were, and it motivates us for this year.
