The Flyers got one top-six forward back on the ice but were missing another one at practice Wednesday.
Wayne Simmonds, who had been battling the flu, returned to practice for the first time since the team's trip to Lake Placid, N.Y., last week.
Simmonds said he felt OK on the ice.
"I'm fine," Simmonds said. "Had a good practice [Tuesday] before the game, too. I was good [Tuesday], just coming back off the flu. But I feel healthy, feel strong and ready to go."
Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said the only difference he noticed was Simmonds looking a few pounds lighter due to his illness.
"He looked great," Laviolette said. "He was loose, he was popping around the ice, he had great snap on his stick and was jumping around on his skates, so he looked good to me."
While Simmonds returned, Jakub Voracek, last season's leading scorer, was missing. Voracek sustained what the team called an upper-body injury during the team's 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday when he was pulled down on a breakaway attempt by the Devils' Bryce Salvador and slid hard into the goal post. Voracek was awarded a penalty shot, and after Devils goalie Cory Schneider stopped his attempt, Voracek left the game and didn't return.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told reporters that he didn't believe the injury was serious. Voracek was not expected to play in the team's next preseason game, Thursday at the Devils, so he'll get an extra day of rest.
Voracek was at the Flyers' practice facility in Voorhees, N.J., but refused to speak to the media Thursday. However, Laviolette said he saw Voracek and told reporters, "He looked good. A smile on his face."
