Thumb injury sidelines Blue Jackets' Bass

Columbus Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards told the Columbus Dispatch that Blue Jackets forward Cody Bass will be out 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb.

Bass sustained the injury when he fell to the ice during a preseason game Monday.

The 26-year-old center had two goals and five assists in 18 games with the Blue Jackets' American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, last season.

Bass last played in the NHL in 2011-12, with one assist in 14 games with the Blue Jackets.

Quote of the Day

You get the right the whistles at the right times, you can leave him out there. He's a beast when it comes to being on the ice. I thought [Saturday] he was a big man. That first period, he did that lateral cut and it was like three bowling pins bounced off him. There's not too many guys that can do that.
