Jets send 2013 top pick Morrissey back to junior team

The Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday trimmed five players from their training camp roster.

Among those leaving the club is defenseman Joshua Morrissey, the team's first-round pick (No. 13) at the 2013 NHL Draft. He was returned to his junior team, the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

The Jets also sent five players to their American Hockey League team, the St. John's IceCaps: Forwards Adam Lowry, Eric O'Dell, Ivan Telegin and Andrew Gordon. Gordon must clear waivers before he can be assigned.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
