Bergeron returns to Bruins lineup

First Gregory Campbell returned to action for the Boston Bruins on Thursday. Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings, the Bruins welcome back another key player.

Coach Claude Julien confirmed to reporters Friday that Patrice Bergeron will make his preseason debut after recovering from injuries that included a broken rib, torn rib cartilage, a collapsed lung and a separated shoulder.

"Yeah, [Bergeron] is going to play [Saturday]," Julien said. "Who’s got the tweets going?"

Finally back in the fold, Bergeron is ready to contribute to another potential playoff run.

"Playing games is always the answer you need and that's the only way you can feel better, feel more comfortable, in your game shape," Bergeron said. "The game is always the last and final answer; you need some games to feel better."

Bergeron had 32 points in 42 regular-season games last season, and his nine goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs was tied for first. However, he played Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks with injured ribs, and then sustained the shoulder injury early in Game 6, but managed to play 17:45.

The Bruins also sent nine players to their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins: Anthony Camara, Chris Casto, Tommy Cross, Alex Fallstrom, Rob Flick, Seth Griffith, Alexander Khokhlachev, Jared Knight and Joe Morrow.
