The Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday trimmed their training camp roster by 12 players, sending 11 to the Charlotte Checkers, their American Hockey League affiliate, and returning another to his junior team.

Defensemen Danny Biega, Mark Flood, Austin Levi, Keegan Lowe, Rasmus Rissanen and Beau Schmitz; forwards Victor Rask, Justin Shugg, Brody Sutter and Brendan Woods; and goaltender Mike Murphy will join the Checkers. Forward Brock McGinn, Carolina's second-round pick (No. 47) in the 2012 NHL Draft, was sent back to the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League.

The Hurricanes have 35 players remaining in camp.

Playing for my favorite team growing up, I've probably scored that goal a million times in my driveway. It feels good to actually do it in real life.
