Calgary Flames reassign 19 players

The Calgary Flames reassigned 19 players Wednesday, sending 13 to the Abbotsford Heat, their American Hockey League affiliate, and returning six other to their junior teams.

The 13 players sent to Abbotsford include goaltenders Laurent Brossoit and Joni Ortio; defensemen Mark Cundari, Brady Lamb, James Martin, Zach McKelvie; and forwards Paul Byron, David Eddy, Turner Elson, Ben Hankowski, Greg Nemisz and Brett Olson.

The six players sent back to their junior teams were defensemen Ryan Culkin (Quebec, QMJHL), Brett Kulak (Vancouver, WHL) and Eric Roy (Brandon, WHL), as well as forwards Coda Gordon (Swift Current, WHL), Morgan Klimchuk (Regina, WHL) and Emile Poirier (Gatineau, QMJHL).

Klimchuk and Poirier were two of Calgary's three first-round picks in the 2013 NHL Draft. The other, Sean Monahan, is still with the team.
