Flyers return Morin to junior team

The Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday returned 2013 first-round pick Samuel Morin to his junior team, the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The defenseman, selected with the 11th pick of the NHL Draft, posted a farewell message to Flyers fans on his Twitter account: "come back in Rimouski today. thanks to the flyers organisation for this camps. #fun #philly great fans great city."

Morin had impressed in two preseason games; he led the team in ice time with 22:22 in a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday, one night after he played 23:14 in a shootout loss to the Washington Capitals.

The 6-foot-6, 202-pound defenseman had signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club Tuesday morning, but his chances of starting the season in the NHL were slim. The Flyers had started training camp with nine defensemen on one-way contracts, plus 15-year veteran Hal Gill at camp on a professional tryout.

"Any time [Morin] can spend here is a bonus, to learn from guys, learn what it takes to be a pro," general manager Paul Holmgren said Tuesday. "When the time comes to make our decision, we'll make it."
