The Chicago Blackhawks released or reassigned nine players on Tuesday, paring their training camp roster to 47.
The Blackhawks assigned forward David Gilbert to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League and returned three players to their junior teams. Defenseman Dillon Fournier was sent to Rouyn-Noranda of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, defenseman Travis Brown was returned to Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League and goaltender Brandon Whitney was sent back to Victoriaville of the QMJHL.
He's a winner. We want winners here, and he's a proven winner. He's won two Stanley Cups. He's 22 years old and been a big part of it. He's got all the right tools. He's got size (6-foot-1, 204 pounds) and strength. He's exactly what we were looking for. He's going to be a big piece of our team for many, many years to come.
