Ducks cut seven players

The Anaheim Ducks cut their training camp roster to 53 players on Monday by returning one player to his junior team and releasing six more from amateur tryout agreements.

The Ducks returned defenseman Kenton Helgesen to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. Anaheim chose Helgesen in the seventh round (No. 187) in the 2012 NHL Draft.

The six players released from amateur tryouts include center Brent Andrews, forwards Austin Carroll, Ross Johnston and Ryan Horvat, defenseman Kyle Becker and goaltender Etienne Marcoux.

The Ducks, who won their preseason opener by beating the Phoenix Coyotes 6-2 on Monday, have 29 forwards, 19 defensemen and five goaltenders remaining on the roster.
