Maple Leafs trim training camp roster by seven

The Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday began trimming their training camp roster, returning five players to their junior team and releasing two amateur tryout contracts.

Forwards Connor Brown (Erie, Ontario Hockey League), Fabrice Herzog (Quebec, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) and Carter Verhaeghe (Niagara, OHL), defenseman Matthew Finn (Guelph, OHL) and goaltender Antoine Bibeau (PEI, QMJHL) all were returned to their Canadian Hockey League clubs.

In addition, forward Matt Rupert and defenseman Trevor Murphy were released from their tryout deals.

The moves leave the Maple Leafs with 51 players remaining in training camp.

Quote of the Day

We want to make sure that whoever makes our team really makes our team by earning it and not putting them in situations where they get preference because of their status as a first-round pick or whatever it might be. That's not going to happen. Everybody has to earn their way on our team.
