Holmgren still expects Cleary at Flyers camp

Despite a report that Daniel Cleary will not join the Philadelphia Flyers, general manager Paul Holmgren told reporters at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Wednesday that he still expects the veteran forward to report to training camp Thursday.

"Until I hear it from the horse's mouth ..." Holmgren said to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer about the report that Cleary would not be with the Flyers.

CBC's Elliott Friedman tweeted Wednesday afternoon: "Not exactly sure why, but it appears as if there is some complication between Daniel Cleary and [Philadelphia]. Told he will not be joining Flyers."

Cleary was named on Philadelphia's official training camp roster and was set to participate on a professional tryout. The Detroit Free Press reported Monday that Cleary had agreed to a three-year contract worth $2.75 million per season, but the deal couldn't be completed until the end of training camp because of the team's salary cap situation.

In confirming Cleary's invitation to training camp, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told the Philadelphia Inquirer "there are no promises" of a contract.

Cleary, 34, had nine goals and 15 points in 48 games for the Detroit Red Wings during the 2012-13 season.
