TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Dallas Stars prospect Jack Campbell, a 2010 first-round pick (No. 11), made 24 saves and forward Alex Chiasson, a 2009 second-round choice (No. 38), scored two goals to lead their team to a 7-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third-place game of the Traverse City Prospects Tournament on Monday at Center ICE Arena.
Campbell, who struggled at this tournament in his previous two appearances, proved to be solid this year. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound goalie won both starts and sported a 1.50 goals-against average and .938 save percentage for the Stars.
Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak (2011, No. 14) had a goal and one assist and Radek Faksa (2012, No. 13) chipped in with two assists in the victory.
Dallas opened a 4-0 cushion in the first period on goals by Brett Ritchie (2011, No. 44) at 6:19, Valeri Nichushkin (2013, No. 10) at 6:20, Matej Stransky (2011, No. 165) at 10:00 and Taylor Peters (free agent signee). Chiasson scored the only goal of the second off a feed from Faksa to extend the lead to 5-0 at 5:33.
"It was a bit of an ugly one," Columbus defenseman Ryan Murray (2012, No. 2) told NHL.com. "We couldn't really put it together and got off to a rough start. We just kind of fell off the wagon a bit and there are a lot of guys, including myself, who will look back on this game and say they could have done a lot better. We didn't come together as a team."
The Blue Jackets snapped Campbell's shutout bid 6:53 into the third when Matej Beran (tryout) connected. Chiasson and Oleksiak closed out the scoring for the Stars.
