Quenneville, Stanley Cup host Whalers reunion

During a party along Lake Michigan with the Stanley Cup on full display, Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville hosted some familiar faces. After carrying the Cup around Chicago, including stops at a post office where he posed for photos, the man known as Coach Q ended the day with a big boat party on Lake Michigan.

The party gave Quenneville an opportunity to enjoy a small reunion with his former Hartford Whalers teammates. Before embarking on his successful coaching career, Quenneville played seven seasons in Hartford. The club never won the Stanley Cup in Hartford, although the franchise enjoyed its first Cup win in 2006 as the Carolina Hurricanes.

With Quenneville and the Cup playing host Monday night, a number of former Whalers enjoyed a night on the lake. Those in attendance included longtime captain and current Carolina vice president of hockey operations Ron Francis, and Florida Panthers coach Kevin Dineen.

Prior to spending the day with Quenneville, the Cup was in Europe for a couple of weeks before spending this past Sunday with Jay Blunk, the Blackhawks executive vice president.
