LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- A scoreless third period brought to an end a 4-0 win for Sweden against the United States.
It was a disappointing for the U.S. in its first game with a cut-down squad.
The Americans had three power plays in the third period, but rarely was able to create any quality scoring chances.
Jon Gillies, who started in goal for the U.S., finished with 19 saves on 22 shots; Thatcher Demko stopped 16 of 17 shots.
For Sweden, Marcus Hogberg stopped all 27 United States shots.
