USA White polishes off Finland

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- USA White finally snapped the American skid at the National Junior Evaluation Camp by finishing off a 5-2 victory against Finland on Monday.

The biggest American contributions came from the line of Taylor Cammarata, Michael McCarron and Tyler Motte, who combined for two goals and four assists. Cammarata, a New York Islanders draft pick, had a goal and two assists, while McCarron, taken by the Montreal Canadiens with the 25th pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, had a goal and an assist.

Zach Stepan, Connor Clifton and Ian McCoshen also scored for USA White, which led 5-0 after two periods.

Teuvo Teravainen and Aleksi Mustonen scored late in the third period for Finland.

Artturi Lehkonen won a race for the puck in the USA White end and centered a pass for a cutting Teravainen. He carried the puck to the hash marks, deked, and fired a wrist shot that beat goalie Jon Gillies over his blocker at 18:10.

Moments later Henrik Haapala tried to put one on net from the high slot, but the shot was partially blocked. The puck rolled to Otto Rauhala, and as Gillies slid out to challenge him, Rauhala slid the puck to Mustonen, who scored into an empty net at 19:49.

That was as close as Finland would get.

More from both locker rooms.
