USA White races to 3-0 lead after first vs. Finland

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The first period was all USA White as Zach Stepan, Connor Clifton and Taylor Cammarata scored in the opening 20 minutes to give the Americans a 3-0 lead after one period.

With Finnish star Teuvo Teravainen in the penalty box, Cammarata controlled the puck just to the right of Finland goalie Joonas Korpisalo. With the defense focused on Cammarata, he sent the puck through the slot to Stepan, who tapped it into an open net at 6:22.

Zach Stepan took a pass from Cammarata and fired a shot from the right circle that got past Finland goalie Joonas Korpisalo.

Just 41 seconds later, Connor Clifton took a long pass and took advantage of a backtracking Finland defenseman to fire a wrist shot from the high slot that beat Korpisalo at 7:03.

Then Cammarata took a pass from Michael McCarron and scored at 10:06.

Back with more after the second period.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
