NEWARK, N.J. -- Jordan Subban acknowledged that his parents had to wait longer for his name to be called than when his older brothers were drafted.

Eldest brother P.K. was taken in the second round of the 2007 NHL Draft, while middle brother Malcolm was selected in the second round last year.

But despite having to wait until the 115th pick Sunday to hear his name called by the Vancouver Canucks, the youngest Subban, a defenseman, feels he's fallen into a great situation.

"Obviously I was hoping to go a little bit earlier, but it doesn't matter how long you wait. I've waited 18 years for this day," Subban said. "I'm just ecstatic that I've been given this opportunity to be part of an NHL organization. Being a Canadian team is the cherry on top."

Subban, who was ranked 55th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, has plenty of experience with the draft, having seen his two older brothers go through it themselves. Both brothers were in attendance at Prudential Center on Sunday and could not hide their excitement at seeing their baby brother drafted. In the end, the Subban clan enjoyed a heartfelt moment in Newark.

"I told myself I wouldn't cry, but a lot of emotions building up," Subban said. "I'm just very excited to be a part of the Vancouver organization."

With Vancouver's rookie camp on the horizon, Subban's transition into the NHL should be aided by some familiar faces. Subban's captain with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, Brendan Gaunce, was Vancouver's top pick last year, while two other longtime friends, Bo Horvat of the London Knights and Cole Cassels of the Oshawa Generals, were also selected by the Canucks on Sunday.

"I've known Bo since we were playing peewee hockey. And Cole, I played under-17 with him. So a couple of familiar faces," Subban said. "[Gaunce] is our captain, so I'm sure I'll talk to him soon and just pick his brain about what to expect coming into camp."
