Gryba not practicing with Senators

Based on practice pairings Thursday, it appears defenseman Andre Benoit will replace Eric Gryba in the Ottawa Senators' lineup when the team's Eastern Conference Semifinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins resumes Friday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, RDS).

Gryba left Game 1 of the series Tuesday with an upper-body injury after sustaining a hit from the Penguins' Brooks Orpik.

According to the Ottawa Sun, Benoit was paired with Chris Phillips. Other pairings saw Erik Karlsson with Marc Methot and Sergei Gonchar with Jared Cowen.

Gryba had no points, an even plus/minus rating and 17 penalty minutes in four Stanley Cup Playoff games. He was suspended for Games 2 and 3 of the first round against the Montreal Canadiens for an illegal hit on Lars Eller in Game 1.

Benoit replaced Gryba in Game 2, his only postseason action, and had an assist on the Senators' goal in a 3-1 loss.

Quote of the Day

We think that Randy is a very good coach. Our players think that Randy is a very good coach. We think that he's going to get the most out of this group. With the addition of the two assistants, a bit of a different dynamic, we're very comfortable that this is a quality coaching staff that's going to maximize the potential of this team.
