Kreider returns to Rangers' lineup, replacing Clowe

NEW YORK -- Chris Kreider is back in the New York Rangers lineup to replace injured forward Ryane Clowe for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The Washington Capitals lead the best-of-7 series, 3-2, and can advance to the conference semifinals for a third straight season with a win Sunday.

Kreider played in Game 1 of the series against the Washington Capitals but has been a healthy scratch since. He had five goals in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.

Clowe was injured midway through the first period of Game 5 on Friday at Verizon Center when his head hit the glass on a hit by Jason Chimera. He returned for one more shift before leaving the game with an undisclosed injury. Chimera was issued a boarding minor on the play.

Clowe missed the last game of the regular season and the first three games of the conference quarterfinals with an undisclosed injury that was believed to be related to a concussion.

Marc Staal and Darroll Powe also remain out of the Rangers' lineup.

Staal is still dealing with issues related to his right eye injury and Powe will miss his third straight game with an undisclosed issue. He was hurt in the first period of Game 3, the only game that Staal has played in this series.

With Kreider in the lineup, here is how the Rangers lines and defense pairs looked in warmups:

Carl Hagelin - Derek Stepan - Ryan Callahan

Mats Zuccarello - Derick Brassard - Rick Nash

Taylor Pyatt - Brian Boyle - Derek Dorsett

Chris Kreider - Brad Richards - Arron Asham

Ryan McDonagh - Dan Girardi

Michael Del Zotto - Anton Stralman

John Moore - Steve Eminger

Henrik Lundqvist

Martin Biron

Scratched: Matt Gilroy, Roman Hamrlik, Micheal Haley, Kris Newbury

Injured: Ryane Clowe (undisclosed), Darroll Powe (undisclosed), Marc Staal (eye)
