Stars 'go to the mattresses'

Following a successful week of Earth Day events, the Dallas Stars teamed up with Sleep Inc. to host a mattress drive at two StarCenter locations and the American Airlines Center. In an effort to combat the addition of approximately 30 million mattresses to landfills each year, the Stars recycling event collected 300 mattresses between the three locations. Stars alumni and ice girls were present at each location, and Stars’ fans who participated were awarded two tickets to last Saturday’s Stars game.

The old mattress recycling initiative focuses on the tearing down of end-of-life products, grinding much of the units down to their raw materials in order to be re-purposed into other uses outside the bedding industry.

Furthering their impact, the Stars and Sleep Inc. committed to donating a blanket to someone in need for every mattress collected. In light of the tragic explosion at a fertilizer facility in West, Texas, Sleep Inc. donated hundreds of blankets to affected residents.
