Bruins say Marchand has 'mild concussion'

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand has a mild concussion, the team announced Thursday before playing the New York Islanders.

"Brad has been diagnosed with a mild concussion," general manager Peter Chiarelli said in a statement. "We will provide an update on his status when appropriate."

Marchand was elbowed in the head by New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov on Wednesday night.

Boston forward Patrice Bergeron also has been out since suffering a concussion April 2. He was with the Bruins’ scratches during an optional morning skate at TD Garden.

The Bruins have Adam McQuaid back in the lineup for the first time since March 19, when he strained his shoulder.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
