ANAHEIM -- Ryan Getzlaf skated for the first time since sustaining a lower-body injury last week, but it's unknown if he will return Monday for the Anaheim Ducks when they face the Edmonton Oilers.
"It felt pretty good," Getzlaf said. "It responded the way we've kind of wanted it moving forward. We're kind of just waiting to make a decision on that [playing]. We've got a lot of time from now until then, so we'll see how it reacts after the skate this morning."
Getzlaf was injured when he got tangled with Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars in an awkward play during a game April 3. Anaheim won that game, lost to Dallas on Friday and won Sunday against the rival Los Angeles Kings.
"It was terrible [to miss Sunday]," Getzlaf said. "Obviously coming out with the win made it a lot easier at the end of the night. I definitely wanted to be out there for that one. A big step for our group."
Getzlaf said his team's place in the standings doesn't affect his decision -- Anaheim has a nine-point lead on the Kings in the Pacific Division race with eight regular-season games remaining. The Ducks have plugged in Saku Koivu and Andrew Cogliano in Getzlaf's place.
"I obviously want to play as much as I can," Getzlaf said. "The more I can play down the stretch here into the playoffs, the more comfortable I'll be, so that part of it is just when it's ready to heal and we're ready to play."
Monday also marks the first NHL game for Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz in Anaheim. The Ducks drafted Schultz in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft, but the sides were unable to agree on a contract and Schultz signed with the Oilers over the summer.
Here is how the Oilers and Ducks could look when they take the ice at Honda Center on Monday:
OILERS
Taylor Hall - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Magnus Paajarvi - Shawn Horcoff - Ryan Jones
Ryan Smyth - Sam Gagner - Nail Yakupov
Lennart Petrell - Jerred Smithson - Mike Brown
Injured: Ales Hemsky (foot)
Scratched: Theo Peckham, Corey Potter, Anton Lander
Notes: Jones is in for Hemsky as Edmonton looks for some offense after it was outscored 8-1 in its past two games. "It doesn't really change much -- just go out there and work their [defense] hard, and be responsible defensively," Jones said. "Play a simple game." … Fistric comes in for Potter after sitting out the previous seven games. "It's a good challenge for myself to come in after I had a lot of time off and play my game against a really good team, and I'm looking forward to it tonight," Fistric said. … Khabibulin was the first goalie off the ice. It would be his second start since March 28.
DUCKS
Bobby Ryan - Andrew Cogliano - Corey Perry
Emerson Etem - Matthew Lombardi - Teemu Selanne
Daniel Winnik - Saku Koivu - Radek Dvorak
Kyle Palmieri - David Steckel - Matt Beleskey
Sheldon Souray - Francois Beauchemin
Injured: Ryan Getzlaf (lower body), Nick Bonino (lower body)
Scratched: Brad Staubitz, Peter Holland
Notes: Sami Vatanen is with Anaheim on an emergency basis after two defensemen got banged up Sunday. Fowler was one of them, but he skated in the morning. Sheldon Souray did not appear to participate. "We had two defensemen that were down and didn't know if they're going to go [Monday] or not, and we're still up in the air," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Once we decide if one of them can go, then we have to send [Vatanen] back down." … Hiller came off the ice first. It would be his first start since he missed a game with illness.
