Sharks' Clowe addresses trade speculation

San Jose Sharks forward Ryane Clowe addressed the trade rumors swirling around him following the morning skate at HP Pavilion on Monday.

Clowe, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent following the season and multiple media outlets have reported Monday that a trade is imminent.

"I'm aware of what's going on and anything happening with me has to go through me, so we'll see," Clowe said, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Clowe did not say if he thought a trade would happen Monday or at least before the deadline at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

"I don't want to give a percentage or anything," he said. "Would I be surprised? Probably not. I wouldn't be shocked.

"If something didn't happen and I stayed here, I'd handle it just like I handled the last three games. I'd play my [rear end] off just like I have."

According to the Mercury News, the teams reportedly interested in Clowe are the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild.

The Twitter world was buzzing Monday morning with speculation that Clowe would be heading to Philadelphia and signing a contract extension with the Flyers.

"If I go somewhere, I'm not going to sign unless I see potential, but it's definitely something I'd be open to," Clowe said. "On the other hand, if it had to come down somewhere as a rental it would probably be to a team that's a top team looking at making a run. We'll see."

Clowe has no goals and 11 assists in 28 games this season. He averaged 20.5 goals per season in each of the previous four seasons.

"If you look at it, I figure I probably play my best hockey down the stretch and into the playoffs so that's probably what teams are looking for," Clowe said. "You look at it the other way, wow, this guy has no goals this year. It's kind of funny teams want him. But overall, I think you look at the body of work over the last four or five years and I like to think I've been pretty consistent."
