Chiarelli trying to find right balance in deadline approach

Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is walking a very fine line approaching the April 3 NHL trade deadline.

While he has a few spots in mind he'd like to improve his team, he has no interest in altering the core of a group that won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

"You always want to try and improve," Chiarelli told CSNNE.com. "I want to try and keep the roster as intact as possible. I'll never say 'never,' but that's been my objective. I think I've shown over the years I'm trying to keep the core together and I'm going to continue and try to do that."

The injury to Chris Kelly has Chiarelli most focused ont rying to add something to a third line that has struggled to perform consistently.

"We've been trying to fill that hole on the third line and we haven't been able to," Chiarelli said. "That's an area we'd like to improve."

CSNNE.com lists potential targets as the Dallas Stars' Jaromir Jagr and Brenden Morrow and Ryane Clowe of the San Jose Sharks. The Calgary Flames' Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester also are possibilities, but the cost could be too high.

Quote of the Day

It was a big dream. [Messi] is probably the best athlete out there, so it's a big honor, for [Kuznetzov] as well. It's maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the best player in soccer right now. I'm a big Barcelona fan and Messi fan, so it's huge. You can take [Michael] Jordan, [Mark] Messier, [Wayne] Gretzky, those kinds of [people]. It's an honor to meet. It's nice to be in that position.
