Notes: Edler is serving the first of a two-game suspension for his charge of Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith. ...  Ballard played as a forward Thursday after Higgins had a stiff back but he is expected to return. Gordon was recently recalled from the American Hockey League. ... Schneider is expected to start, according to the Vancouver Province.

Notes: Coach Darryl Sutter called out the top line after a 2-0 loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday and said they have not been playing well for about three games. He recently put Jordan Nolan back in the lineup, but he has rookie Tyler Toffoli at his disposal if he wants more of a scoring threat. ... Quick was in net Thursday and he could hardly be faulted for the two goals allowed. ... Saturday is the 19th anniversary of Wayne Gretzky breaking Gordie Howe’s scoring record in a game against Vancouver.
