Malkin, Letang remain out as Penguins face Isles

The Pittsburgh Penguins will put their 10-game winning streak on the line Friday night against the New York Islanders, but they will again be without two stars.

Center Evgeni Malkin and defenseman Kris Letang skated Friday morning, but coach Dan Bylsma told reporters at Nassau Coliseum that neither would suit up against the Islanders.

Malkin, the 2012 Hart Trophy winner, has missed the past six games because of an upper-body injury which the team said isn't related to a concussion that caused him to miss time earlier this season. He has five goals and 24 points in 21 games this season after winning the scoring title last season.

Letang missed Pittsburgh's previous game, a 2-1 defeat of the Washington Capitals, because of a lower-body injury. He leads NHL defensemen this season with 28 points in 25 games.

The Penguins also announced they have recalled forward Trevor Smith from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Smith is second on the club in goals (18), assists (23) and points (41).
