Maple Leafs place Komisarek on waivers

TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs placed defenseman Mike Komisarek on waivers Wednesday.

Komisarek had a no-movement clause in his contract and had to waive it to allow the move. Komisarek would report to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League if he is not claimed by another team.

The 31-year-old was on the ice for the morning skate but was not available for comment.

Komisarek has no points and a plus-2 rating in four games this season. He last played Feb. 2, and has been a healthy scratch in 21 straight games.

Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher said forward Ryan Malone is out indefinitely with a left-shoulder injury. Malone was hurt March 18 in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Forward Benoit Pouliot is "on the verge" of a return, according Boucher. The left wing, who is recovering from an upper-body injury, was on the ice for the morning skate with a red jersey.

Quote of the Day

I kept refreshing the page on the NHL website after the second round and I was shocked he lasted that long. I'm sure the Coyotes were pretty happy to get him. He's such a good player and he plays big in big games.
