Maple Leafs recall Gardiner from AHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday the team had recalled defenseman Jake Gardiner from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. He will be available for Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Gardiner had no points, a minus-1 rating and four shots on goal in two games with the Maple Leafs earlier this season. Last season he had 30 points in 75 games.

In 43 AHL games this season, Gardiner has 10 goals and 12 assists.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
