Bernier looks likely to get start Tuesday for Kings

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Jonathan Bernier likely will get a chance to stay perfect at home when the Los Angeles Kings finish a back-to-back home series against the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.

Bernier was the first goalie off the ice at the Kings' optional skate Tuesday morning. He is 4-0-0 at Staples Center this season.

Coach Darryl Sutter probably wouldn't be questioned much if he went back to Jonathan Quick, who recorded his first shutout of the season with a 4-0 win Monday.

Quick started back-to-back home-and-road games earlier this month. The Kings really need Quick to regain his form, but Sutter has cited the busy schedule as a need for more of a rotation in goal.

The lineup should remain the same, with rookie Tyler Toffoli at second-line right wing with Jeff Carter and Mike Richards. Jordan Nolan stayed on with the extras and appears to be a healthy scratch again.

Sutter talked about a handful of his players needing to get better individually, and Nolan is a recipient of his tough love.

"There's a point where patience for me becomes no more patience," Sutter said. "For example, somebody asked me about Jordan Nolan. Jordan Nolan hasn't had a very good year, quite honest. He's been fortunate to stay in the lineup, and he'll be fortunate to get back in."

On the other hand, it's been a charmed call-up so far for Toffoli, 20, who scored his first NHL goal Monday. He's roommates with fellow rookie Jake Muzzin. So who does the cooking?

"Subway does the cooking," Muzzin joked.

Here is how the Kings likely will look when they face the Coyotes:

Dustin Brown - Anze Kopitar - Justin Williams

Mike Richards - Jeff Carter - Tyler Toffoli

Dwight King - Jarret Stoll - Trevor Lewis

Kyle Clifford - Colin Fraser - Dustin Penner

Jake Muzzin - Drew Doughty

Rob Scuderi - Slava Voynov

Keaton Ellerby - Alec Martinez

Jonathan Bernier

Jonathan Quick

Scratched: Jordan Nolan, Brad Richardson, Davis Drewiske

Injured: Matt Greene (back), Willie Mitchell (knee)

Quote of the Day

I remember the first time at Wrigley Field all of us had the long johns, the turtlenecks and the extra equipment because we were afraid of being cold. Halfway through the first period everybody's ripping everything off and we just ended up wearing what we would normally wear for a game at the United Center.
