Devils rule Brodeur out for Thursday

New Jersey Devils coach Peter DeBoer ruled goaltender Martin Brodeur out for Thursday's matchup against the Buffalo Sabres at Prudential Center due to lingering back soreness.

DeBoer told the media Wednesday that he informed general manager Lou Lamoriello that Johan Hedberg would start against the Sabres. He also told The (Newark) Star-Ledger that Brodeur, who was placed on injured reserve Feb. 26 (retroactive to Feb. 24), is feeling better but not close to returning.

DeBoer said Brodeur is no longer day-to-day.

"I wouldn't classify [Brodeur] as day to day," DeBoer said. "I mean, he's not going to play Thursday. I don't mean it's going to be a month. It's sometime in between day-to-day and a month."

Brodeur hasn't played since pulling himself from the lineup during warm-ups prior to a game against the Winnipeg Jets on Feb. 24.

Quote of the Day

I'm hoping Bob [Murray] didn't go out and get Dany Heatley just to get someone. I'm sure he's excited and motivated.
