GLENDALE, Ariz. -- With center Martin Hanzal and winger Radim Vrbata now on injured reserve, the Phoenix Coyotes called up forwards Chris Brown and Rob Klinkhammer from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.
Either Brown or Klinkhammer could make their Phoenix debuts when they open a rare run of three straight games Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks at Jobing.com Arena. But coach Dave Tippett said he likely will stick with the same group that lost 4-3 to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday and hope they show more fire this time.
Phoenix's fourth line of Paul Bissonnette, Kyle Chipchura and Nick Johnson has been the most productive line of late, so any substitutions would have top come from the top three lines, all of which have struggled with the juggling of partners since Hanzal and Vrbata went down.
Both injured players have been back on the ice this week but were ruled out for Saturday, so they were placed on IR to open roster spots. Brown, a 2009 second-round pick who played at the University of Michigan, has 18 goals and 11 assists with the Pirates this season. Klinkhammer has 14 goals and leads the Pirates with 44 points in 52 games.
