Canucks to don jerseys honoring Millionaires

The Vancouver Canucks will pay tribute to the city's long hockey history March 16 when they don replica uniforms honoring the West Coast's first professional hockey team, the Vancouver Millionaires. The Canucks will wear the retro third jerseys that night for their game against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Millionaires played in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association from 1912 to 1922, and in 1915 won a best-of-5 series against the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey Association (later renamed the National Hockey League) to capture the Stanley Cup.

The Millionaires became the Vancouver Maroons in 1922 and played their home games on Canada's first artificial ice surface in what was then the largest indoor ice arena in the world. Denman Arena was built by Frank and Lester Patrick and held about 10,500 people.
