SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers center Stephen Weiss will miss Tuesday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins to attend his grandmother's funeral.
The Panthers on Tuesday recalled center Scott Timmins from San Antonio of the American Hockey League.
Timmins centered a line with Shawn Matthias and Tomas Kopecky at the Panthers' morning skate.
Timmins, a sixth-round pick of the Panthers in the 2009 NHL Draft, had 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in 47 games with San Antonio this season. He has played in 19 NHL games, all with Florida (2010-11), scoring one goal.
Weiss, going through a difficult season, was benched for most of the third period of Sunday's 4-1 loss against the Boston Bruins. He played 1:14 on two shifts during that period and didn't see the ice in the last 6:01 as the Panthers were attempting to rally from a 3-1 deficit.
The longest-tenured member of the Panthers, Weiss has one goal and three assists in 14 games this season and his minus-11 rating is the worst on the team.
