RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Winnipeg Jets announced that Zach Redmond underwent surgery Thursday for approximately three hours to repair a laceration to his right femoral artery and vein.
Redmond left the ice by ambulance near the end of Thursday's morning skate after being cut on the back of the leg during a 1-on-1 drill.

"We were trying to get our extra players conditioned, and there was a 1-on-1 battle at the net where he tripped up and landed on his back," Jets coach Claude Noel said. "(Another) player happened to step on him and cut him just above the back of the knee."
The Jets later said in a statement that Redmond was resting comfortably in recovery and is expected to be out indefinitely.
Many of the Winnipeg players were off the ice when the incident occurred. The Jets' medical and training staff rushed from the dressing room to the ice and immediately tended to Redmond. Upon being taken away in the ambulance, a large pool of blood was visible above the top of the crease.
"He lost a fair amount of blood and I think he's in some pain," Noel said. "We got it tied up and got some pressure on it."
Throughout the ordeal, several players remained on the ice with Redmond. As the players came off the ice, it was clear that they were affected by the injury. James Wright left the ice with a deep sigh, saying, "Just a freak accident."
Noel said Redmond remained conscious and coherent throughout. The Jets coach acknowledged that the injury left his team a little on edge ahead of its scheduled game Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
"They will be rattled. It's a teammate. There's not much you can say," he said. "It kind of throws a wrench in your pregame, but we will get ready to go by the time we get back here at 5 o'clock."
