MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will miss the game Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers with the stomach flu.
The club has recalled Robert Mayer from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League to back up Peter Budaj.
It will be Budaj’s third start of the season, and he is still seeking his first win with an 0-1-1 record, 4.32 goals against average and .866 save percentage. Price leads the NHL with eight wins and his 2.06 goals against average puts him eighth in the League; his .922 save percentage in 12th best.
Canadiens coach Michel Therrien learned Friday night that Price would be unavailable to play.
It could be welcome news for a Flyers team that is struggling, losing 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils on Friday after leading the road game 3-1. It was the Flyers' second loss in three games as they continue to dig out of the 2-6-0 hole that started the season.
