Giguere to miss Saturday's game for personal reasons

The Colorado Avalanche announced Friday that goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere will leave the team for a couple of days due to personal reasons.

Giguere is scheduled to rejoin the team Sunday. In the meantime, goalie Calvin Pickard has been recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.

Giguere has won both his starts for the Avalanche this season, including a 4-3 shootout win over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Pickard, a second-round pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, will likely back up Semyon Varlamov on Saturday night when the Avalanche face the Edmonton Oilers.

Quote of the Day

We have no doubt how he can play. You don't, with four teams that are left, you're not getting here without good goaltending. All great goalies left, and [Bishop] is a top-tier goaltender in this league and he's shown it.
