Canucks' Kesler medically cleared to play

The Vancouver Canucks have announced that center Ryan Kesler has been medically cleared to return to playing.

"All indications are that Kesler is ready to go," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said, according to the team's official Twitter feed.

Kesler practiced with the team Thursday, skating on a line with Chris Higgins and Zack Kassian.

"It's a line that can bring good size with physical presence and good puck pursuit," Vigneault said.

Kesler has yet to play this season following offseason surgeries on his shoulder and wrist.

"It's another step," he said after practice, according to the Canucks' Twitter feed. "Still no timeline [for a return]."

The Canucks' next game is Friday, against the Dallas Stars.

Kesler, 28, had 22 goals and 49 points in 77 games last season, and three assists in five Stanley Cup Playoff games. In 2010-11 he had a career-best 41 goals and won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the League's top defensive forward.
