The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Mathieu Garon will start in goal Thursday against the Washington Capitals (7:30 p.m. ET, NHLN-US), but his backup remains a question.

According to the Tampa Tribune, Lightning goalie Anders Lindback sat out the morning skate due to an illness and his availability for Thursday's game is unknown.

In three games this season, Garon is 1-2-0 with a 2.84 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.

If Lindback is unavailable to back up Garon, the Lightning could turn to Cedric Desjardins, who was acquired earlier Thursday from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for minor-league goaltender Dustin Tokarski.

In 22 games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League this season, Desjardins is 7-13-2 with a 2.94 GAA and .905 save percentage.
