Cammalleri back, Byron in as Flames host Stars

CALGARY, Alberta -- The Calgary Flames will welcome Michael Cammalleri back into the fold when they host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Cammalleri, still seeking his first goal this season, was sidelined with a nagging hip flexor injury and missed Calgary's past three games. The injury offered Cammalleri a unique opportunity to refresh his season, according to Flames coach Bob Hartley.

"Injuries, they're not fun," Hartley said. "You need to work out in the gym. You're basically removed from the team, but at the same time it gives you a chance to work on your conditioning, work on your game, think about your game and yes, I think that there's always values to maybe take a step back, do little reflections, and tonight it's a new start for Cammy."

Making his season debut for the Flames will be forward Paul Byron, who was recalled Tuesday from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League.

"He's a good skater, has lots of speed, so that's what we expect to see from him and we know we're going to get it," Hartley said. "All his career he proved lots of people wrong being small, starting from Junior A all the way up to the NHL. He's the kind of guy I really like."

Byron, expected to center Curtis Glencross and Jarome Iginla, had five points in 22 games with the Flames last season playing primarily on the wing.

"This time feels different, being able to play center here," Byron said. "Last year I played a lot of time on the wing and it's not my natural position. I think I'm a better centerman, so hopefully I can do a lot better."

Here is the lineup the Flames likely will go with Wednesday:

Jiri Hudler - Alex Tanguay - Roman Cervenka

Curtis Glencross - Paul Byron - Jarome Iginla

Michael Cammalleri - Matt Stajan - Lee Stempniak

Blake Comeau - Blair Jones - Tim Jackman

Mark Giordano - Jay Bouwmeester

TJ Brodie - Dennis Wideman

Chris Butler - Cory Sarich

Leland Irving

Joey MacDonald

Injured: Sven Baertschi, Mikael Backlund, Miikka Kiprusoff

Scratched: Anton Babchuk, Steve Begin, Derek Smith
