Jets return Scheifele to junior team

For the second year in a row, forward Mark Scheifele hasn't been able to stick with the Winnipeg Jets after an early-season audition.

The Jets on Wednesday announced they have reassigned the seventh pick in the 2011 NHL Draft to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.

The 19-year-old played in four games with the Jets this season and failed to register a point. He had been a healthy scratch in five of the Jets' past six games.

Last season as an 18-year-old, Scheifele had one goal in seven games before he was returned to juniors. Reassigning Scheifele before he has played his sixth game this season means the first year of his entry-level contract has yet to take effect.

In 30 games with Barrie this season, Scheifele has 22 goals and 27 assists.

Quote of the Day

I don’t know if it was more relief for me that [Stamkos] scored or the power play scored. It was a whole compilation of Alka Seltzer.
