The 27-year-old defenseman, who was the centerpiece for the Stars in a 2011 trade that sent James Neal and Matt Niskanen to the Pittsburgh Penguins, has zero goals and three assists this season. Stars coach Glen Gulutzan confirmed his decision to scratch Goligoski.
"Alex needs to get back to Alex's level. It's pretty cut and dried," Gulutzan told Dallas Morning News reporter Mike Heika.
Asked if he thinks he might be putting too much pressure on himself and trying too hard, Goligioski said yes.
"I think it's probably a little of that," he said. "I just have to relax and simplify my game, and just make the smart play."
You can be hyped all you want, but his game will speak for itself. He's obviously going to be a great player so we've got to make sure we keep an eye on him. Whether it's his first game or his 1,000th game, our job is to take care of business, shut him down.
