Three players have been suspended so far in the 2012-13 season -- Philadelphia's Brayden Schenn for a charging infraction on New Jersey's Anton Volchenkov, Colin McDonald of the New York Islanders for a boarding penalty on Pittsburgh's Ben Lovejoy and Washington's John Erskine for a hit to the head of Philadelphia's Wayne Simmonds.
The incidents Shanahan highlighted during his appearance on the show included hits by San Jose's Brad Stuart on Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog, Toronto's Mike Brown on Buffalo's Patrick Kaleta and Los Angeles' Jarrett Stoll on Anaheim's Cam Fowler.
Stuart collided with Landeskog near the San Jose blue line late in the first period of a game on Jan. 26 at HP Pavilion. The Sharks defenseman was not penalized on the play. Landeskog returned to the game, but hasn't played in any since because of a head injury.

Brown hit Kaleta along the boards late in the first period of a game Jan. 29 at First Niagara Center. He was penalized for boarding on the play. Kaleta was taken to the hospital with a neck injury and has not returned to the lineup for the Sabres.

Stoll put Fowler into the boards in the corner to the right of Anaheim's goaltender early in the second period of a game Feb. 2 at Honda Center. The play occurred just as a fight was breaking out on the other side of the ice and play was whistled to halt. Stoll was not penalized on the play. Fowler has not played since because of an upper-body injury.
