Just days after being placed on waivers and subsequently bought out of his contract by the Montreal Canadiens, veteran center Scott Gomez reportedly is meeting with the San Jose Sharks this weekend.

After scoring twice in 38 games last season, Gomez's tumultuous time in Montreal came to an end, leaving the 2000 Calder Trophy winner a free agent. According to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun, a number of teams have since inquired about Gomez, including the Anaheim Ducks and New Jersey Devils, where Gomez started his career. After the Carolina Hurricanes were rumored to be looking at the 33-year-old center, the Raleigh News & Observer reported that they are not interested.

If Gomez comes to San Jose, it will be a reunion of sorts. Sharks assistant coach Larry Robinson was Devils coach during Gomez's first three seasons in New Jersey. The pair won a Stanley Cup together in 2000.

Despite the Sharks' rumored interest in Gomez, they appear to have plenty of centers on their roster. They signed James Sheppard on Friday, adding him to a group that already includes Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski, Andrew Desjardins, Michal Handzus, and Tommy Wingels.

Once again, it shows character in this dressing room. Once again, there's no quitting in here. We all wanted this so bad and we worked so hard to get home-ice advantage and we weren't going to let this one slide.
