QMJHL honors for Drouin, Mantha

A pair of 2013 NHL Draft prospects were honored Monday by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Halifax Mooseheads forward Jonathan Drouin was named Second Star of the Week, and Val-d'Or Foreurs forward Anthony Mantha was named Third Star of the Week.

Drouin, who recently returned from time off to let an upper-body injury heal, had five goals and three assists in three games last week. The 5-foot-10.75, 185-pound left wing, who earned an A rating from NHL Central Scouting in its preliminary rankings of players to watch for this year's draft, started his week with two goals and two assists Wednesday in a 6-2 defeat of the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Then on Saturday he had a hat trick in a 6-2 win against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and capped his weekend with an assist in Sunday's 7-3 defeat of the PEI Rocket.

The win was the 13th straight for the Mooseheads, who have 30 points, the most in the QMJHL. And in just 10 games, he has 23 points.

Mantha, a 6-3.5, 180-pound left wing who also received an A rating from Central Scouting, had eight points in three games. He started his week Tuesday with a goal and two assists in a 4-3 shootout win against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. A night later, he had a personal-best four goals, plus an assist, in a 5-4 overtime defeat of the Rimouski Oceanic.

For the season, Mantha is fifth in the league with 28 points, and fourth with 15 goals.

Drouin and Mantha were just two of many top draft prospects in the QMJHL who had big weekends.
