Tarnasky, 27, joins the Sabres after spending a season in the Kontinental Hockey League playing for Vityaz Chekov. In his KHL season, Tarnasky scored five goals and added seven assits for 12 points, along with 173 penalty minutes in 36 games. The native of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, was chosen by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the ninth round (No. 287) of the 2003 NHL Draft. In 245 games during parts of five NHL seasons with Tampa Bay, the Nashville Predators and Florida Panthers, Tarnasky has 13 goals and 30 points, along with 297 penalty minutes.
Brennan was the Buffalo Sabres' second-round pick (No. 31) in the 2007 NHL Draft. After spending the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, Brennan scored a goal in his NHL debut on Nov. 23, 2011 vs. Boston. The Willingboro, N.J., native appeared in 11 games for the Sabres in 2011-12.
Brennan finished the 2011-12 season with 16 goals, 30 points and 39 penalty minutes in 52 games for Rochester of the AHL. His 16 goals were a career high and were tops among all Americans defensemen.
