Canadiens re-sign Blake Geoffrion

Blake Geoffrion, the fourth generation of his family to play with the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL, will be with the team for another season after signing one-year contract Monday.

RDS reports it's a two-way deal that will pay him $803,250 in the NHL.

Geoffrion, a forward who is the great-grandson of Howie Morenz and grandson of Bernie Geoffrion, was acquired in a trade from the Nashville Predators for defenseman Hal Gill late last season and scored twice in 13 NHL games with Montreal. He had three assists in 22 games with the Predators before the trade after putting up six goals and eight points with Nashville following a call-up in 2010-11.

"Contract is done, now time to focus on the season. Happy to be back with the habs where it all started for my family," Geoffrion said via his Twitter account.

The former University of Wisconsin star, who won the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in the NCAA in 2010, was taken in the second round (No. 56) by Nashville in 2006.
