Center Hanson signs with Bruins

Free agent center Christian Hanson signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins, the team announced Monday.

The contract is worth $600,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level.

Hanson, 26, played last season for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League after signing with the Washington Capitals as a free agent. He had 10 goals, 11 assists and 42 penalty minutes in 52 games.

He played the prior season with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. In 58 games, he scored 13 goals with 21 assists and 51 penalty minutes.

In 42 NHL games over three seasons -- all with the Toronto Maple Leafs -- he has three goals, six assists and 22 penalty minutes. He most recently played during the 2010-11 season.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
