Canucks add pair of defensemen

The Vancouver Canucks on Thursday signed free-agent defensemen Derek Joslin and Patrick Mullen.

Joslin, 27, had four points in 44 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, and three points in four games with the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

In 114 NHL games with the Sharks and Hurricanes, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound blueliner has four goals, 16 points and 63 penalty minutes.

Mullen, 26, had 41 points in 69 games last season with the Manchester Monarchs, the Los Angeles Kings' AHL team. His 13 goals were tied for fourth among AHL defensemen.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
